Firstly, lignosulphonate contains a little sugar, protein, fat and some microelements which are essential for animals’ metabolism, such as calcium, ferrum, zinc, manganese,etc. So it can be added to materials to increase and replenish the nutrition content of feed pellets.
Secondly, lignosulphonate can serve as a kind of binder in feed pellets production because of its chemical characters. From the perspective of chemical structure, it has aromatic nucleus, benzene ring, phenol hydroxide radical,methoxy group, and highly cross-linked three-dimensional network structure. Besides, none of the 5-position carbons of benzene ring has substituent group, that is to say, in benzene there are free vacancies (the ortho-position and para-position of phenol hydroxide radical) which will have the reation of futher cross-linking and curing, and this is just the basis for adhesiveness of lignosulphonate. When added to raw materials , it can be used to “bind”, “glue” or hold the various feed components together in order that they will maintain pellet integrity during subsequent operations and after they are extruded from the pellet die. Moreover, production rate increased more than 20% in the feed pelleting process with1.25% lignin binder included without negative effects on feed pellets.
